Patels-2 brothers honoured on Indian stamps-Sardar Vallavh Bhai Patel and Vitthal Bhai Patel-stamps issued between 1965-2025

This small collection contains 3 mint stamps on Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and 2 mint stamps on Vitthal Bhai Patel issued in different years-1965,1973,1975 and 2025.

Vitthalbhai Patel and Vallabhbhai Patel were two prominent Indian brothers who made important contributions to India’s history, but in different fields.

- Vitthalbhai Patel (1873–1933): He was an Indian freedom fighter, lawyer and political leader. In 1925, he became the first Indian elected President (Speaker) of the Central Legislative Assembly under British rule. He strongly supported legislative independence from British control.

- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950): He was a leading freedom fighter and one of the principal leaders of India’s independence movement. Popularly known as the “Iron Man of India,” he served as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. He played a crucial role in integrating hundreds of princely states into the Indian Union after independence.

Vitthalbhai was the elder brother of Vallabhbhai Patel. Both were born in Gujarat and contributed to India’s freedom struggle in their own ways

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1991, in recognition of his contribution to the nation, that is Government of India took 41 long years to honor  “Iron Man of India,” with an appropriate award.
