History and Significance
The Event: The cover marks a "POD Change" (Post Office Department change) effective September 1, 1962. On this date, the Port Canaveral post office was officially renamed Cape Canaveral.
The Cachet: The decorative artwork on the left, known as a cachet, was produced by Boerger A.B. Covers. It features a map of the Florida coast and the text "It's Cape Canaveral Now!" to emphasize the official naming.
The Cancellation: The circular postmark confirms the location as Cape Canaveral, FLA. with the date Sep 1 1962, the very first day of the new name's effectiveness.
The Stamp: The envelope features a 4-cent Project.
