Swiss Post issued a stamp May 8 to mark the first time that Switzerland will host the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Women's Euro-pean Championship, the main soccer competition between national teams of the UEFA

The 1.20-franc stamp shows a Swiss soccer player scor-ing a goal against an oppos-ing goalkeeper. The soccer ball in the lower right corner of the self-adhesive stamp is punched and can be removed to be affixed elsewhere.

The design incorporates the indication "Helvetia" on both the perimeter advertising boards between the field and stadium bleachers as well as spelled out in the crowd on the bleachers. The numbers indi-cating the 1.20fr denomination appear on the back of the goal-keeper's jersey.

The stamp was designed by Marisa Nussbaumer and print-ed by Gutenberg AG

European Championship will compete July 2 to July 27 across eight cities: Basel, Bern. Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lu-cerne, Thun and Sion.

The tournament will fea-ture 31 matches. The opening match will see host nation Switzerland face Norway at St. Jakob-Park in Basel with the final also scheduled at the same venue. Organizers an-ticipate a total attendance of around 700.000.

In 2025 the defending cham-pions England return to the tournament along with the reigning FIFA Women's World Cup champions Spain. Switzer-land has never won the tourna-ment. However, the host coun-try has won the tournament five out of the 11 times the tour-nament has had a fixed host.
